Childhood Memories

It's way too late to be posting a blog, and Michelle is telling me to go to bed. But just because all I love all de peoples so much, I thought I would give you all this precious early-morning gem of a random blog. Here it is: Childhood Memories. Yes, you heard me. I'm just going to list for you (in no particular order except for the order in which they pop into my head) all the random things I miss most from those good 'ol days of being 4. Or 7. Or 13 for that matter.

1. Snowpants
2. Going to bed at 8 o'clock at night and sleeping until 8 o'clock the next morning just because I didn't know any better.
3. My little pink toothbrush
4. Being small enough to fit in the bathroom sink while brushing my teeth with my little pink toothbrush.
5. My Rainbow Brite dolls with the little velcro hands that would stick together so all the dolls could be friends.
6. The hilarious stories my dad would tell me just before I drifted off to sleep.
7. My white bunk bed. (The top bunk was always MINE! I was a very selfish child.)
8. My pink blankie! Oh, how I loved my blankie! Twas a cruel punishment the day I got home from school only to find my blankie was gone... for good. Alas, I did cry much.
9. Easter egg Hunts!
10. Wearing my mom's far-too-large moon boots out in the snow right after the first snow-storm of the season.
11. Add to that her far-too-large gloves, coat, purse, and makeup, and you have me on any other day playing dress up.
12. The Baby-Sitters Club... I loved those girls! Dawn was always my favorite!
13. My grandma's white dog Buffy (that died when I was about 11... muchos tears...)
14. My purple-cow pajamas and the song that went along with them. "I never saw a purple cow. I never hope to see one. But I can tell you anyhow, I'd rather see than be one!"
15. My dad waking me up in the morning while singing, "Get up! Get out of bed! Drag a brush across your head!" Yeah, he's one weird guy.
16. Our blue front door on our blue house... I miss that old place...
17. The giant sandbox in our backyard that was more like a giant weedbox with a little sand and clay mixed in.
18. Running through the sprinklers on a hot summer day. (And pretending I was drowning in them? Yes, I was a weirdo too... "WAS" being the key word.)
19. Chasing my neighbor Jamie all around the circle until I finally pinned him in my front yard and kissed him full on the mouth! (I was like 7!)
20. (This is the last one, folks, because Michelle is insisting I go to bed right now!) My mom playing the piano in Primary, and me being in the front row right by the piano. Thus I would hide under the piano bench every time we had to sing. Surprisingly I hated singing when I was a child... and I hated it until I was in about 6th grade... strange, eh?

Ok, gotta go!

  • Your Dad woke you up to The Beatles (#15). Sweet. I now plan on torturing my children in similar fashion.
